We've been keeping ourselves pretty busy lately and the time has flown by... Here is a recap of some of the stuff we have been up to. I am sure I am leaving out something important, but here it goes...
Riley serves the Lord
Riley left on his mission. I either had the stomach flu for a day or I ate something bad, but the night he flew in (the night before he entered the MTC) I was sick and didn't want to risk getting him or anyone else sick in case it was the flu, so I stayed home in bed while while James, Tanner and Robin took Riley out to dinner and to get ice-cream and who knows what else. They had a great time. I am so proud of Riley for making the decision to serve a mission. I know he will bless the lives of many through bringing them to a knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I know our family will also be greatly blessed for his service.
Here they are at Texas Roadhouse. See you in 2 years Riley!
Not sure why Robin is flashing the money, but yeah...
A visit from Delia
Saturday the 5th of October, I got a call from Delia around 4 in the morning. My phone was in a different room and on vibrate...and I was asleep, but somehow I woke up answered the phone. Delia informed me that her ride up to Utah was not staying in Provo as she had thought and did not want to take any detours. She asked if I could pick her up somewhere near the I-15. One word: Walmart. It was so good to see her. The last time we saw each other was when she came up for my wedding, 2.5 years ago :O. After she finished picking up some essentials (and some less than essential items) we headed back to my apartment for breakfast of whole-wheat waffles, strawberries, whipped cream, bacon, and eggs. It was delicious. We headed up to my parents' house for the first session of General Conference, where Delia got a "Sister Pinson hug." Towards the end of Conference "half-time," Delia left to try to get tickets to go to a session in the Conference Center. It was hard to say goodbye.
We matched and we didn't even plan it. Blue tops, black pants.
I love and miss this girl.
A visit from the Sam and Sara Pinson family
My brother, Sam and his wife in kids were also in town for conference weekend. It was great to see them. The reality of us moving to Kansas is slowly but surely setting in for me. It feels like the weeks are just flying by. I won't love being so permanently far away from family. I wish I could just pack everyone up and put them in my suitcase.
General Conference
General Conference was excellent. I always feel a little sad when it is over... I am so thankful for technology and that we can immediately access the addresses given. I love to go back and listen to the talks over and over again during the 6-month wait for the next General Conference. I thought the talks were very timely and uplifting.
Here I am with my two adorable Grandmas after one of the sessions of conference.
Stake Conference
The week after General Conference, we had our Stake Conference. It was also excellent. We have some amazing leaders and other people in our stake. The overall feelings I got from the conference were that I just need to trust in the Lord and keep pressing forward.
Canadian Thanksgiving
The night of Stake Conference we celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving at James' aunt's house. It was delicious. I am all for having 2 thanksgivings for two reasons: 1. I have so much to be thankful for and 2. I love food and family.
The first 2 pieces of pie James ate at... Yes he had more.
BYU Football
We have been going to football games and watching the away games on TV. It has been crazy. I never know what to expect from the Cougars...they are a little sloppy and all over the place sometimes, but somehow manage to still pull off the wins some of the time. One thing is for sure—Taysom Hill is a beast! He is so fast and does great with the rushing yardage, but I have also been impressed with how his passing game has developed over the course of the season.
BYU football. I think this was from the BYU vs. UTAH game.
Grandma Lybbert made James and matching hats. I only have a picture of my wearing one, but we love them. They look awesome and help keep our heads warm. Thanks Grandma! I will try to get a picture of us together with them on at some point.
Here I am with my cute beanie.
The Temple
We've made a trip or two to the temple since I last posted. The temple is the best place in the world. I always feel so close to my Heavenly Father and feel so much perfect peace there. I wish I could completely hold onto that feeling outside of the temple, but there are so many distractions in life. I hope I can make my home a place where the spirit is and where it isn't so hard to hold onto those feelings I have in the temple.
Fall
So I don't know if you've noticed, but it is fall. fall is terrifying for me because I have a great fear of the cold and I know that after fall comes death weather for the rest of forever...well at least that is how it feels when I am going through winter. There are a number of wonderful things about Fall though. I absolutely love when the leaves change colors. There is a patch of trees that I drive past every day on my way to and from work and it takes my breath away every time. The colors are so vibrant! I know God loves me because of the beautiful creations he has given us to enjoy. It makes me happy just thinking about it. Another thing I love about fall is P U M P K I N S! I am a little obsessed right now. Check out my pumpkins below... I finally got around to painting/glitter-fying them. I may or may not have additional pumpkins in my apartment. :D I like pumpkins and I like things with pumpkins in them, namely pumpkin cupcakes. Here is my recipe it is delicious—just ask James. He eats his without the frosting though because he doesn't like cream-cheese. The frosting is so good though, so I highly recommend it.
They are so pretty!
Bon Fire
On Friday we went up to Vivian Park and had a bon fire and hot chocolate with some people from our ward. We had a good time.
Jam
One of my activities this Saturday was to make raspberry jam. Its great to have a little bit more space in our freezer. Its still pretty packed, but not as badly as before. Raspberry jam is the best jam. Thank you Mom Low for showing me how the first summer James and I were married. :)
Thawing the frozen raspberries
Cooking the jam
Eating the jam Jam on pancakes...that's how we do it in the Low household
Back to his roots
Sunday we went to a Woodinville reunion/potluck. It was fun for me because I lived in that ward for the first 4 months we were married, but I think it was extra fun for James because he knows everyone a lot better.
Reading
We recently started ready the Work and the Glory series together. It has been a couple of months since we have read books aloud as a couple (aside from scriptures anyway) so its fun to be back at it. I also just joined our quad book club. We are going to be reading I Capture the Castle. It should be good. Yay reading.
Family Home Evening
We built a basic electric motor with magnets and wire for our family home evening activity on Monday. If you want to see it work, check out the video below.
